YES, IT'S A BIG DEAL

So addictive like a drug,

You cannot escape, you are tied up tight on to it.

You rely on the high highs and low lows that make you feel complete.

The feeling of you making things up like the hallucinations.

You become out of sight and out of mind for your partner,

Then BOOM!! The self-denial and self-doubt hits you

Because you gave away your heart

You dream of wanting yourself back, your freedom.

But you are slaved.

What slaved you?

The toxic relationship you are in that has addicted you making you feel like there is no way of saving yourself. I call it a drug because of its controlling nature. However, I do not blame you because that type of a relationship is hard to spot and harder to let go.

According to Racheal Pace, an expert of love and ties says that, many people are addicted to toxic relationships because of various factors like codependency, insecure or trauma bonds. The 3 factors are a true definition of a toxic relationship.

Nevertheless, your relationships can be either an unhealthy or healthy. According to the study done by Youth Organization on toxic relationships, it defines healthy relationship as respect for both oneself and others, a contrast of the unhealthy relationship, which is a relationship that one party tries to exert control and power over the other physically, sexually, or emotionally. Call the unhealthy relationship the toxic relationship.

Apart from those in an intimate relationship, the relationship you have with your friends and family can be toxic too. Leave behind the misconception that the toxic relationship must be the intimate relationships. I know you are asking yourself “how can my friends and family be toxic?” think of the moments when your friend or one of you family member forced you into doing something unwillingly or that time your friend or family make you feel unwanted.

Sadly, anyone can be in a toxic relationship regardless of gender, age, race, sexuality, love and relationships experience or any other factor. However, a bigger percentage of the female gender and youths have always been in a higher risk of the toxic relationship.

Unfortunately, the unhealthy/toxic relationship in our societies is also being experienced in our campus. The drugs eating up our youths has now become a lesser issues that the deaths of our youths annually due to the depression and mental health caused by the toxic relationships boned in the campus.

The video below show the journey of an intimate toxic relationship amongst the youths in campus.

How do you avoid a toxic relationship? Bitterly, it is so hard to know how a toxic person is until you build a relationship with one. “How I wish one could tell by someone’s looks.” Choose your circle of friends and a life partner vigilantly.

To my fellow youths in campus be extra careful regarding the toxic/unhealthy relationship. How it intoxicates and addicts you, so deadly and escaping it becomes a problem. Be careful and always prioritize your own self before any other person or any other thing. Your peace of mind and health is very important because YOU ONLY GET TO LIVE ONCE.

So, what type of love are you in?
